My Material Life

Bags, Booties, Haberdashery

I got the 2015-2016 Bergere de France catalog in the mail the other day and look what I found in it …

They’re selling these faux leather bag bases, tops, handles and hardware in a kit  – you knit the center. Isn’t that smart and so good-looking? Leave it to the French. They come in brown and black in handbag and shopping bag sizes. I think I’ll ask for one for my birthday.

And what about these little booties? They sell pre-punched soles in adult-sizes too.

If you like to knit, crochet, sew, embroider or do needlepoint, you should get yourself a copy of this catalog. There are even samples of many of their yarns included inside – how do you suppose they manufacture it? You just don’t find things like this much any more. Not in the United States anyway.

And my goodness, the haberdashery! Three different sizes of what they call automatic knitting dollies, a lucet (the likely precursor to the spool knitter), what look to be adjustable wooden weaving looms and so much more. Click here to see about requesting your own copy.
