My Material Life

A Little Christmas Music

It’s so easy and fun to put together your own compilation of Christmas favorites using iTunes. I put the following list of songs on a cd that we listen to in the car. If you don’t already know them, you should definitely check out I Saw Three Ships by Sting, Must Be Santa by Bob Dylan, and Christmas Time is Here by Rosemary Clooney.

Christmastime Is Here (Vocal), Vince Guaraldi Trio

Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy, Bing Crosby & David Bowie – I remember watching this on TV; I couldn’t believe Crosby and Bowie together! This track even includes their somewhat awkward pre-singing banter.

I Saw Three Ships, Sting – I never really thought much of this song, but Sting really brings out the beat in this version.

The Chipmunk Song, Alvin and the Chipmunks

Twelve Days of Christmas, John Denver and The Muppets

O Holy Night, Andy Williams

Christmas/Sarajevo 12/24 (Instrumental), Trans-Siberian Orchestra – Love their name – so exotic and snowy!

Gounod’s Ave Maria, Barbara Streisand – One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created.

Mele Kalikimaka, Bette Midler – Love the intro and my daughter’s favorite.

Kay Thompson’s Jingle Bells, Andy Williams – A real swingin’ version. Got to love that Kay Thompson – what a renaissance woman she was! We also like Diana Krall’s version, especially when she sings I’m just crazy about horses at the very end.

Please Come Home for Christmas, Eagles

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Pretenders

Must Be Santa, Bob Dylan – Who knew Bob Dylan could be so fun?

Christmas Time is Here, Rosemary Clooney – Now my favorite version of this song.
