Valentine’s Vignette, Hearts, Flower

February 14, 2013 by mymateriallife

Happy Valentine’s Day 2013!  I had a few things I wanted to try this year, like the scene above.  Here you can see two more champagne chairs – one with a few beads, one without (the red cap is from a bottle of Lambrusco I bought to go with a pizza we had last week).  The table is made from one of those plastic things you find in your pizza box to keep the pizza from getting crushed and a […]

Happy Birthday Celia

June 12, 2010 by mymateriallife

This is my mother Celia and me in a favorite old photo.  Isn’t she adorable?  She would have been 81 today.  She was about 35 here.  I’ve always loved this picture because I look so happy and content.  I remember that red, black and white ski sweater she is wearing so clearly.  My parents had a cabin in Big Bear Lake and that’s where she’d wear it.  She loved clothes and she had a knack for dressing well and keeping […]

Missing Darlene

May 2, 2010 by mymateriallife

Today would have been my mother-in-law Darlene’s eighty-second birthday.  She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 27th of last year.  It’s caught me off guard, how much I miss her.  I don’t think she particularly cared for me when we met back in the mid-eighties.  I was taking the attention of her baby, the last of her six sons.  And she wasn’t the warm and nurturing kind of mother I was used to.  I didn’t produce any grandchildren until […]
