These are white pipe cleaners that I shaped into hearts and left to soak overnight in a solution of boiling water, borax and food coloring.

Just a couple of tips on making these: make sure you use a jar with a wide enough mouth – one that can accommodate both your plain pipe cleaner heart and the heart once it becomes crystal-encrusted, so you’ll be able to remove it from the jar. Also, try to leave some space between the bottom of your heart and the bottom of your jar. Crystals will form at the bottom of your jar and the closer your pipe cleaner is to the bottom, the more likely it is to get a bit stuck.
